5 Days of Juice...

Ok so I realize it has been awhile since my last blog. I'm sorry about that. I've been super busy with family and my little one. Who knew a 2 1/2 month old could be so busy? Any who while I was enjoying my family time I came across a documentary by Joe Cross called Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. It is a documentary about health and being over weight and such. However, the thing that got me so interested about this documentary was that during the filming for 60 days Joe Cross only drank juice. No it wasn't bought juice, it was throwing fruits and vegetables in a juicer and drinking them. Now you might think it's a bit crazy but he ended up losing 100lbs.

This juicing wasn't a quick fix thing to lose weight. It was a detox. Basically you give your body all the nutrients it needs so it can kick out all the bad stuff. It boosts you metabolism, clears up your skin, and gives you energy. It is a way for you to get in all the fruits and veggies you need without having to sit all day and eat them.

So I decided that I should try this detox. I definitely wasn't going to do a 60 day detox that's for sure but I thought, how about a 5 day detox. If you go to his website http://www.fatsickandnearlydead.com/ you can see his different detox plans. He gives you recipes and a shopping list so you aren't just sticking random things that won't taste good together in the juicer.

I started my 5 day detox on Monday. I had a Carrot, Apple, and Lemon juice (I will post the recipes as well) for breakfast. For my lunch I had a Garden Variety and mid afternoon snack was Watermelon Crush. At the beginning it wasn't too bad but after seeing my husband eating real food for dinner it really started to ware on me. All I could think about was real food. Around 6 o'clock I caved. I was so hungry and tired. I just wanted to eat. I decided that only juicing wasn't for me. I thought hey how about I juice all day except my supper? That is my plan.

So today I am on day 2 of the detox and so far so good. I am having a Fruit Combo for breakfast then will have a Red Un-Beet-Able juice for dinner and afternoon snack will be Joe's Mean Green juice. Hopefully they taste as good as they sound! I will keep you updated on my detox as the days go by.

My Experience With Greek Yogurt...

I keep hearing all this good stuff about Greek yogurt but I had never tried it before. I like yogurt so I figured it should be the same. Well not too long ago I tried Astro's drinkable Greek yogurt. It wasn't bad but I found that it had too much of an aspartame taste to it, but I was willing to try the regular yogurt...I'm yet to try anything yet except for the plain.

I went to the store today to buy some vegetables as my husband and I are eating them like crazy which is an awesome thing. My husband ate a whole head of cauliflower himself over the weekend while I was gone. So for someone like him who isn't huge on vegetables this was a big accomplishment. But anyways back to my story. As I was getting veggies I went over to the yogurt section to just look at the different kinds that you can get and to see if they had a lot of sugar. Well I ended up coming home with a little 142g container of presidents choice 0% Greek yogurt.

I wasn't quite sure what I was gonna do but I thought hey it's on sale so why not try it. As I was on my way home I was thinking about an episode of Dr.Oz I had seen where instead of using thick, creamy, high calorie and fat dressings on your salad you could replace it with Greek yogurt with your own spices. I thought this would be a great idea as I'm a huge fan of ranch and Caesar dressing. Then I had a better idea...

When I was younger my mom used to put Lipton's onion soup mix in sour cream and eat chips and veggies with it so I thought, "hey why can't I do that with the yogurt?". It turned out great! The best part is you can have veggies and dip and be completely guilt free about it because it's good for you! One serving of this dip is equal to 120 calories, 0% fat, 15g carbohydrates, and drum roll please, 15g of protein! If you don't believe me just try it...oh and remember: drink your water!

Get Drinking!

So as you know last week I said that I would be posting some new recipes that I'd try. Well I kinda forgot that my sisters stag was this weekend so I didn't get to try very many. However I did try one new thing and that was chicken wraps. I bought a rotisserie chicken from the store and had a salad one night with the chicken, then the next night my husband and I had salad wraps with it. Basically it was everything you would have in a salad put in a wrap. I have to say it was absolutely delicious!

The one I had for dinner...

My one I had for supper...so yummy and so healthy!

It was so nice to have all these fresh and healthy ingredients for supper all wrapped up in one! This was my last super healthy meal before the weekend came. I can say I ate pretty healthy over the weekend but I wasn't able to work out and I drank, a lot of beer. I went out for the weekend for my sisters staggette so of course I drank. I don't drink often and it was the first time I've drank since my little girl came into the picture. Today I am paying for it. I was gonna do my measurements and weigh in today and I realized how swollen I was and when I stepped on the scale I had gained 2lbs. I can definitely say that drinking on the weekends is not worth it. So today I am back on the saddle again. I did my hasfit workout this morning then this afternoon me and the little one went for a 1 mile walk then we will be going for another walk this evening as a family. I'm hoping to continue losing like I was before this weekend :).

It can be hard sometimes with a newborn to get out for a walk but I wanna make sure no matter what I'm doing some sort of exercise. Another thing I know I need to do is drink more water. The average person doesn't drink enough water and I know I'm one of them. On average I'm only drinking 4 glasses a day when I should be drinking at least 8. I have to drink more! That will be my personal challenge for this week. Drink at least 8 glasses a day. Will you join my challenge? If every day you can replace a regular drink of yours with water till you get to the point where all you drink is water your set. However depending on your weight there is a certain amount of water your body needs. Here's how you can figure that out.

Get drinking everyone!

Catch Up Day...

Since the last time I posted I have been quite busy. I got held hostage at my parents house, attended some birthday parties, did some grocery shopping and cleaned my house like crazy. I have been a bit off track and wasn't able to work out for a few days but am back on track. My husband and I did our weekly weigh in today and I was quite surprised with the results as it was such a crappy week for working out. Turns out I lost 3.6 lbs and 16 inches overall, lets just say I was ecstatic.

So as I said I did some grocery shopping this week and earlier last week I had written a post about the cost of eating healthy. Well with the help of sales and bargain hunting I was able to get three weeks of healthy foods for $100. Food on this list included eggs, cheese, chicken, veggies, cottage cheese, nuts, shrimp, fruits and pasta. This is the first time my husband and I have went to the store and only bought healthy foods. I was quite proud of myself that we were able to get all this stuff for ourselves to help continue our path to a healthy lifestyle.

My Breakfast This Morning

Now that we have our food figured out we can continue our workout plan that we follow (hasfit.com) and hopefully keep seeing our awesome results. I'm hoping that the weather gets nicer so me and my little one can continue our walks around the neighbourhood to boost my workouts. I'm hoping in the next few days I'll be able to try some new recipes for you guys and let you know how they turn out...thanks for reading :)
